What is your favorite memory/ moment that brought you lots of joy? When I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa durning a pandemic!
What is something people generally don’t know about you? That I hope to one day start a non profit organization but still searching for the right cause.
Who is Alex? A caring and understanding person who can be found with a smile no matter where life takes her.
What gets your fired up about the disability movement? Knowing that there is an opportunity to to make change, to bring more awareness to a variety of disabilities.
What is your advocacy platform? Hoping to be a voice for those with disabilities, especially those with Cerebral Palsy.
What barriers or challenges do you face in this movement? One of my biggest barriers is society’s perception of the person’s disability rather than focusing on the person’s abilities.
What do you want those who do not identify with disability to know? That our feelings, desires and motivation to succeed in life is the same as those.
What areas are you still growing/hope to grow? Personally? Professionally? To continue to love my disability and accept it as a part of who I am. To make a positive impact on the world in any way I possibly can.
Who was the person/role model who inspired you to look into disability advocacy? Why/how did they inspire you? My biggest role model is my father. He has a disability as well and he has taught me so much about my own disability and to love everything that comes along with it.
When people look at you/up to you, what do you hope they see? I hope they would see me as someone who has a good heart and I hope to make a positive impact on all the lives I touch.
What are your next steps? My next steps are to go out in to the real world and see what it has in store for me! I’m so excited to see what I can bring to this world!
